2025 Year 4 Student Device Agreement

7 November 2024

Dear Year 3 Parents/Guardians,

2025 Year 4 Student Device Agreement

As we look ahead to next year, we would like to inform you of an important change regarding student devices in Year 4. After much consideration, we will be encouraging Year 4 students to keep their devices and chargers at school during the school week, rather than transporting them between home and school each day. This change is intended to lighten the load for students and ensure that devices are readily available for

learning.

We have observed that many students find their devices heavy to carry, which can lead to discomfort and fatigue. Additionally, devices often come to school uncharged, resulting in missed learning opportunities. We also recognise that some students occasionally forget their devices at home, disrupting their ability to participate fully in class activities.

To ensure the safety of the devices, they will be stored in a safe, lockable trolley within the classroom when not in use. Students will still be able to take their devices home over the holidays to complete any necessary work requirements. If you wish for your child to take their laptop home over the weekends, we ask that you please purchase an extra charger to keep at home to ensure that chargers remain available at school for daily use.

As part of this arrangement, parents will be required to sign a device agreement if you choose to leave your child’s device at school. This agreement will outline the responsibilities and expectations regarding device care and use. However, it is very important to note the following:

  • The school’s insurance will not cover devices that are left at school. If a device is damaged, lost, or stolen while on school premises, the school will not be responsible for covering the cost of repairs or replacement.
  • Parents are responsible for obtaining insurance coverage for their child’s device to protect against any unforeseen circumstances. Please ensure you review your insurance options to cover any potential damage or loss.

While we will take care to store the devices securely, accidents can happen, and we want to make it clear that the school will not be liable for any costs associated with accidental damage or theft of devices while they are in our care.

We hope this arrangement will make things easier for both students and families while ensuring that devices are protected and available for use in the classroom. If you have any questions or would like further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
